This tribute is dedicated to Luke Anthony Francis, better known to friends and family as Tony. If
you knew Tony he was a "REAL" character of our times. You would find him mainly in pubs
in Leeds, Stockton, Bradford, Bishop Auckland, anywhere they sold beer, or sat on the floor at the
tripe stall in Leeds Market. He would usually be found sat on his own, but never for long, as he
usually got surrounded by women, he would be sat upright on the seat with his legs crossed a fag in
his hand and a pint in front of him rocking, usually doing a lot of shouting and was reknowned for
banging his hand on pub tables. Tony was from the Travelling Fraternity and would always be full
of stories, how he tamed wild horses and ate hedgehog round the camp fire and was born in Armley
Jail? He would be a regular on Travellers sites up and down the country, usually doing a lot of
shouting. He could have been Johnny Rottens brother.
I was shocked and saddened to hear he had died last year of cancer. Had I have known I would have
attended his funeral as I had known him for twenty years.
He had suffered with TB as a young man and it had taken its toll on him, his lungs were knackered so
he'd say, but it never stopped him puffing away on his roll ups. He would cause ructions
wherever he went, and pick fights with the biggest and hardest of men, then us women that was
fortunate to be in his company would have to protect him....
The pubs won't be the same without LUKE ANTHONY FRANCIS - named after three saints, and was the
biggest sinner of them all.

How much do we miss you, more than words can say. The memories you left us are with us everyday. We speak your name often and play your favourite tunes and lots of wonderful memories fill the entire room. We know you're all around us, watching from up above. Guiding us everyday and showering us with love.
